The history of tinting glass can be said to go back all the way to the making of glass itself. Although colors and glaze were used decoratively for beads and pots, true glass windows did not exist until 100 AD. The first glazed glass, or as it was called then- ‘sheet glass’, was developed by the Venetians in the 12th century royal palaces only.
However, window tinting as a protection from sunlight is just over a hundred years old. March 25, 1902 marked the day of the invention of a sheet glass drawing a machine, which made the mass production of glass windows possible.
Over the years, people began to realize the glare and temperature were increasing. Window tinting began to develop mid-century, with a vapor that deposited an aluminium coat to only allow the partial transmission of light.
Now, although tinting is used to manipulate heat, light and visibility, the shade of tint used cannot vary according to the intensity of the light. We have recognized a problem faced by people all around the world, yet is not taken into consideration. The problem to be addressed is the blindness caused due to the sun’s glare. The same sun that provides us with natural light and heat is also the cause of around 36 deaths and 3000 accidents every year.
The only way to counter-act this issue is to create a system that measures the light intensity and causes the car windows to tint accordingly.
